The Witness - Archdiocese of Dubuque.
St. John Vianney, Curé of Ars, pray God to bless all priests, and to bless our seminarians now preparing for the sacred priesthood; grant them success in their studies and perseverance in their efforts. Amen.

Our
Founder, Father
Michael J. McGivney chose the name "Knights of
Columbus" because, as a Catholic Order, he felt we should
relate to Christopher Columbus, the Catholic discoverer of America.
"Columbus" would emphasize that it |
|
was Catholics who discovered the North American continent. At
the same time "Knights" would signify that
the membership embodied noble ideals of spirituality and service
to church, country, and our fellowmen. |
About Our Council
St. Anthony Council was founded the 15th of May 1982 through the efforts of Ray Quint and Father John Purtell. It is named after St. Anthony who joined the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans) and became renowned for his ability to teach the Catholic faith in a plain and simple way so that all could understand it. He was named a saint one year after his death and named a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius XII in 1946. He is typically depicted with a book and the Infant Child Jesus, to whom He miraculously appeared, and is commonly referred to today as the "finder of lost articles." Upon exhumation, some 336 years after his death, his body was found to be corrupted, yet his tongue was totally incorrupt, so perfect were the teachings that had been formed upon it.
